Life up until now...

Life up until now... Well, it has been on the road - working for the United States Forest Service. Seven summers of wildland firefighting. I've had a great time, been some places, seen some things, met and hung out with some of the greatest people out there. I came home from a long 2009 season, not especially busy but long nonetheless. Had a good winter, I hung with my family and girlfriend, tried to be as normal as possible. Then from no where a small and unforgiving word found its way into my immediate future. CANCER. My older and only sister has breast cancer. WTH? It's still very surreal and very scary. She is a beautiful mother of five children, married to one of the greatest guys. Now she is going through some of the toughest times to date.

What can you say? What can I do? I've asked myself that many times. My mind is so full it's hard to just write this simple blog entry.

The idea of not doing anything is unacceptable. That's where my sense of adventure and the idea to do something to help my sister, as well as complete strangers, sounded like the only thing to do. Hence my voyage from Atlanta, Georgia to the Arctic Circle, Alaska, on my motorcycle, and this site to document my journey along the way. The site has links to donate, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Susan G. Komen foundation. It will hopefully give my sister something to do when she is too tired to do anything else - she can lie down and read this blog, follow my progress to the Arctic Circle, and relax.
I hope you'll join me along the way, as I'm riding to a cure for this devastating disease.
